Exercise # 3

The tourists were shown a totally different picture of the exotic resort developed in a palace in India to lure them to the country. However, when they reach Delhi, where the resort is supposed to be, they find that they were conned. There was no resort and no facilities as shown in the brochure.

In order to avoid conflict
•
They decide to stay back and enjoy the country and its sites on their own
•
They enjoy the culture and people of the country, rather than making fun of them or humiliating them as being “lower” to the Americans in some way.
•
Forgetting about the ‘exotic’ vacations, they do what the common man in India does, what they eat and how they travel, to really take in the sights and sounds of the country.

Muriel, was a racist who was just taking the trip for a cheap hip replacement. Her view of the country and its people were derogatory.
Graham, who wished to visit his childhood, actually started enjoying by engaging with the youth and reliving his younger days by mingling with the young and full-of-life people in India, which can be found everywhere, unlike the developed West, where the young are mostly busy in their jobs or education and do not have time for the adults.
Lothario who was very lonely in his life, chose to mingle with people and just enjoy his stay in the country.

Muslim Chinese - collaborative solution

Islam in China is practiced not from today, but from 1911 AD. Muslims are free to practice Islam in China and a few Mosques and Islamic centres can also be found indifferent cities of the country, including Beijing, the capital (BBC, 2002).
The issue is only Uighur Province where a separatist movement is rising under the Turk Muslims, who wish an independent Muslim state for themselves (Davis, 2008).
The solution to this conflict is a compromise from both groups of stakeholders.
•
The Muslims must realize that they are a part of the big nation, China. As citizens of a country, they must abide by the laws of the State and do not start a movement that can cause unrest in the region and be unacceptable to the government and fellow citizens of the country.
•
The Chinese government must not treat the Uighur Muslims as second grade citizens and allow them freedom of expression as well as their basic human rights. They should be allowed to practice Islam freely and not stopped from fulfilling their religious duties, such as Fasting during the month of Ramadan or keeping a beard, symbolic trait of Muslim men.

•
The resolution of conflict also demand patience, peace, and tolerance from both parties as well.
