Final 12 Dimensions Critical Reflection

Final 12 Dimensions Critical Reflection

Part 1

1. Communication

Communication can be direct or indirect. Direct communication involves directly communicating your views and points out in the open whereas indirect communication usually involves a third party person in between.

For Example:
when giving feedback to the workers, the managers communicate directly to them and explain to them where they are lacking and what is expected of them. On the other hands, bonuses can be a way of indirectly communicating to the employees on how their performance had been, the previous year.

2. Expressions

When is it comes to expressions, people choose to either reveal them freely or keep them private. Expressions can not only be read through body language and facial expressions, but also according to the tone of the speaker. Many a times expressions are enough to explain a person’s opinion.

For example:
a frown can show a person’s discontent or a smile can show agreement.

3. Connecting

When communicating, you either include the person in the conversation, giving them reasons and details on your point of view or you simply be exclusive, that is provide only information without reasoning.

4. Decision making

Decisions can be made, keeping in view the current situation or a person can sacrifice the current gains by taking decisions that help strengthen the long term relations.

 For example:
in most Asian cultures (Arab, Chinese, Japanese) focus is on making long term relations with family, clients, customers, etc. Thus people in these cultures take decisions that prolong their relationship.

5. Outlook

The outlook of a person can be very traditional as compared to an outlook that supports innovation. People with traditional outlook resist change. While those with an innovative outlook accept change and are more open to new ideas and products. For example, the Western cultures can be considered more innovative, as in the past century, all major innovations have come from the West. However, if we go into Islamic history, it encouraged innovation and Islam cam to break the shackles of tradition which were detrimental to mankind such as killing women and children to please Gods.

Part 2

The questionnaire was very informative and a way to identify my true self which was not very obvious to me as well. However, I disagree with a few points.
In terms of contextual behaviour, it is true that I support open environments in organisations and also in group work. However, in my opinion, a more reserved and structured work environment is more suitable to my work style.

Example:
I get nervous working in teams and would rather prefer working on my own, at my own pace. I feel working in teams takes the rewards of hard work from one team member and gives it to the team member who did not work as hard. Also, the relation between boss and employees should have certain boundaries and not be so open that it borders on frankness.
I agree that I am very rules oriented and want to follow rules at workplace too.
Yes I am very time – oriented.

For example:
as I said I want a structure in everything I do. My planning, behaviour and expectations revolve around being structured.
However, I feel that I have a good ability to conceal my emotions. As the report says my expression of emotions depends upon situations, however, I try not to reveal my feelings until they are really needed.

Part 3

I feel that the results of this questionnaire will actually become CLEARER in the next 5 years.
As I said, my tendency to accept more structured environments, with clear cut relationships and a formal communications preference will become more evident from the way I work at my job. I will prefer to have a more formal relation with my colleagues and bosses. I wish to work in an organisation with an open environment but everyone must know their limits and must follow the rules.

I will also like to work in an organisation where I can show my true talent by working as an individual rather than in groups as I find clearly identified tasks and goals more achievable for me as compared to collective tasks for the group or team.

In my opinion, most results will be same, but not bordering between the two extremes of the dimensions. They will clearly favour one end of the dimension. For example, as the results showed expression of emotions in between reveal and conceal, with my work experience, it will clearly go to the conceal side.
